It’s Just Economics

Does capitalism feel overwhelming and all-encompassing to you? How do we begin to imagine a different future and what would that look like? How can we take practical action to begin to make alternative economic futures a reality? Economic theory can be overwhelming and intentionally difficult to understand. We believe that a new economic future should be for everyone to imagine and create, and in no way be exclusionary.

UKYCC’s It’s Just Economics workshops are interactive, accessible and informative, designed to get you reimagining an economic future – one that works for people and planet, brings a community together, and transforms the current system.

Foundation Workshop

Our introductory workshop lasts 2 hours and is designed for people aged 18-30. The session incorporates basic ideas within economics, our current economic system, and how alternatives could look. We recommend it to anyone curious, with little to no knowledge of alternative economics.

Young people complete the session with a basic understanding of our current economic system, its underlying problems, and with an idea of what a just, sustainable system could look like.

While we can’t teach everything in 2 hours, this session aims to inspire and engage young people in this side of climate justice!

Ignite Programme

In 2025, the Just Economics team ran a 10-week course on alternative economics for 10 young people, in collaboration with guest speakers.

This course covered:

  • Deep-dives to alternative economic ideas and examples
  • ‘Imagination activism’ activities
  • Mentorship, led by experienced activists
  • Opportunities and micro-grant funding for similar projects/action

Stay tuned for more in 2026! We particularly welcome applications from people who are typically under-represented in economics spaces, including but not limited to women, people of Global Majority heritage, LGBTQIA+ folk and people with disabilities.
